phases of the moon

  • New Moon. the phase of the moon where it first appears.
  • Waxing Crescent.The waxing crescent phase is the moon's first step toward fullness.
  • First Quarter.The First Quarter Moon is a Moon phase when we can only see half of the moon 
  • Waxing Gibbous. waxing means it is getting bigger and gibbous refers to the shape 
  • Full. the full moon is where you can the whole moon 
  • Waning Gibbous. waning means it is getting smaller and gibbous means the shape 
  • Third Quarter.The Third Quarter Moon is when the opposite half of the Moon is lit up 
  • Waning Crescent. only a little bit of the moon is lit up 



The moons impact on the tidesHigh tides and low tides are caused by the moon. The moon's pull generates something called the tidal force. The tidal force causes Earth—and its water—to bulge out on the side closest to the moon and the side farthest from the moon. These bulges of water are high tides.
